CT City triumph against Chippa

Cape Town - Lebogang Manyama and Judas Moseamedi netted as Cape Town City defeated Chippa United 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

City climbed to the top of the Absa Premiership log after winning, while Chippa stay ninth following the game which was played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Thembinkosi Lorch took an early shot from just outside the City box and forced goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters into a decent save five minutes into the game.

However, it was the visitors, who broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Lebogang Manyama scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-0 to City.

New Chippa striker Katlego Mashego had a chance to restore parity for his side seven minutes before half-time, but the experienced forward was ruled off-side.

Paseka Mako's powerful shot 15 minutes into the second-half missed the target as Chippa searched for the equalizing goal at home.

However, the visitors doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when super-sub Judas Moseamedi beat Nigeria international Akpeyi to make it 2-0 to City.

Mashego, who recently joined the Chilli Boys on a free-transfer, did make it 2-1 for Chippa from the spot-kick with seven minutes left on the clock.

Nevertheless, City managed to contain Chippa in the dying minutes of the game and ultimately, they emerged 2-1 winners on the day.
