CT City to meet PSL over new sponsor

Cape Town - Cape Town City are set to meet with the Premier Soccer League on Monday to discuss the dispute regarding the club's new sponsor, SportPesa.

According to a Soccer Laduma website, the league are questioning the legitimacy of City's sponsorship deal with the sports betting platform.

The dispute is said to center around an earlier resolution reached by the league in which it was specified that clubs won't be allowed to acquire a betting company as a sponsor.

In addition, only the league itself would have the right to form a relationship with such a business.

The publication's sources reveal that City chairman John Comitis was a part of the Executive Committee of the PSL that made that earlier decision.

It appears a meeting will now take place in which PSL clubs will discuss the matter with the board of governors.

It remains unclear at this stage what outcomes will result from the meeting although the Citizens could face sanctions should the PSL decide that rules have been contravened.
