CT City smash club transfer record on midfielder

Cape Town - Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of Bafana Bafana starlet Gift Links who was made available by Egypt's Alassiouty after the club was bought out by a wealthy investor.

The 19-year-old impressed with his performances in the COSAFA Cup under coach Stuart Baxter where he played a part in helping Bafana secure the plate trophy.

The former Platinum Stars product was spotted by the Egyptian Premier League side earlier in his career after some good displays in the CAF Confederations Cup for Dinaledi.

The teenager spent the 2017/18 campaign with the Egyptian side before being snapped up by City ahead of the 2018/19 season in the Absa Premiership.

The player's agency, Siyavuma Sports Group, believe the move to the Citizens will be a positive one for Links' career after they broke a club record to sign him.

The agency told Soccer Laduma: "The biggest pull was the fact that Benni (McCarthy) knows a top player when sees one. It's a big move for Gift and it says a lot for him that City were prepared to break their transfer record for him. It shows the intentions of the club.

"We see this as another stage of his development, he's still a teenager and will only turn 20 when the 2018/19 season finishes. We think he's got a lot of potential and definitely see him making a move back overseas again in the future."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
