CT City score late to deny Matsatsantsa

Cape Town - Cape Town City held SuperSport United to a 1-1 stalemate in an epic Absa Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday evening.

Having beaten their opponents in the Telkom Knockout final last weekend, City once again broke Matsatsantsa hearts with Lebogang Manyama scoring a 93rd minute equaliser, as the club from the Mother City held on to top spot in the league.

The match turned into a real war of attrition, with both teams going all out to secure all three points on the night.

The first chance of the match fell to Judas Moseamedi on 11 minutes with the forward profiting from swift interplay, but with the goal at his mercy he failed to hit the back of the net as Michael Boxall mopped up the scraps - clearing the ball off the line.

City continued to look the more likely, but SuperSport started to find their feet in the closing stages of the half with Thabo Mnyamane letting fly from the edge of the area. The former AmaTuks man, though, could only direct his left-footed shot straight at Shu-Aib Walters.

The match deadlocked at 0-0 as the teams headed to the changing rooms at the interval.

Kingston Nkhatha finally found the opener in the 82nd minute of the encounter. A swift counter-attack, which started from well within their own half, finished off by the Zimbabwe national who profited from a pin-point cross by fellow former Kaizer Chiefs man Reneilwe Letsholonyane, 1-0.

City, though, would hit back with the final roll of the dice as Manyama pounced on a mistake by Reyaad Pieterse to secure a point for his team.

The former SuperSport man left with an easy finish following yet another mistake by the burly shot-stopper, who almost cost his side a point in the goalless stalemate at Bloemfontein Celtic earlier this month.
