Cosmos, Aces share spoils

Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos managed to hold Mpumalanga Black Aces to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership clash at the Olen Park on Tuesday night.

Ezenkosi, who are relegation candidates, remain 14th on the Absa Premiership standings with 14 points from 17 games following the draw.

AmaZayoni, who are Absa Premiership title challengers, remain second with 34 points from 17 games following the draw.

Cosmos got off to a good start forcing three corner-kicks by the 20th minute and attacking Aces from all angles in search of the opening goal.

Aces goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters produced a fine save in the 14th minute denying Ezenkosi full-back Pentjie Zulu who tested him from range.

Cosmos shot-stopper Sherwin Naicker was called into action in the 27th minute when he parried away Aces midfielder Mpho Matsi's shot from range.

Ezenkosi captain Frederic Nsabiyumva made a quality clearance at a near-post from AmaZayoni full-back Bryce Moon's well-taken corner-kick two minutes before half-time.

In the second-half, the two teams continued to test each other from range without creating clear cut goal-scoring opportunities.

In the 57th minute, Charlton Mashumba unleashed a powerful shot from range and it missed the target without troubling Walters.

At the other end, Aces midfielder Matsi fired from a shot from edge of the Cosmos box in the 80th minute and it went inches wide of the target.

Ultimately, the match goalless with Cosmos and Aces collecting a point each on the night.
