Cape Town - Bongani Zungu has secured a move overseas after he agreed a deal with Portuguese Primeira Liga side Vitoria de Guimaraes for next season.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder was free to speak to other clubs since the January transfer window opened after entering the final six months of his contract at Chloorkop.

Zungu admitted earlier this month he had received numerous offers to ply his trade in Europe, and the 23-year-old has settled on Vitoria.

The South Africa international's agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, confirmed the deal, which will see Zungu remain at Sundowns until the end of the campaign before he departs for Portugal.

Kapeluschnik said: "We have spent a considerable amount of time and energy looking at and meeting with various clubs all over the world and after careful consideration Bongani has decided to join Guimaraes.

"There were many teams keen to sign the player, but it was felt that he should join a league where most importantly he will get game-time and join a club that is happy to develop and sell players on to bigger leagues in Europe.

"Guimaraes are currently sitting in position six in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and have just beaten FC Porto in a league match. Portugal is currently ranked as the eighth strongest national football league in the world, according to IFFHS."

Zungu added: "Guimaraes has been following my progress for quite some time and they really showed a huge desire to have me join the club.

"When I met with the people from the club they made me feel like they really wanted me and this together with the fact that they are well known for developing and selling players made it easy for me to join.

"I also want to make it clear that I am a Mamelodi Sundowns football player until the end of the season and that I am 100 per cent committed to making sure that the team does well.

"Obviously Sundowns wanted me to stay and my agent and I had discussions with them and we both assured Sundowns that if I were to stay in South Africa the only team for me was Sundowns.

"The president understood my position and said that he would not stand in the way of me going to Europe and for this I thank him and the entire team."
