Comitis plays down Lakay to Sundowns talk

Cape Town - Cape Town City boss John Comitis says that no deal has been struck with Mamelodi Sundowns regarding winger Lyle Lakay.

The 26-year-old former FC Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic wide player was linked on the weekend with a move to Sundowns, with one report claiming the deal just about a 'formality'.

But Comitis has told Soccer Laduma website that no deal with Sundowns has been made, while also revealing interest from another Gauteng club.

"I haven't done so, (agreed with Sundowns)," Comitis revealed.

"I know that there was interest from Sundowns and I know that there is interest from Wits. I was more interested in looking at the Wits option because it was going to include a player swap, but at this stage, nothing has materialised," he said.

"I was in Russia with Gavin (Hunt) and Jose (Ferreira, the Clever Boys CEO) but nothing has materialised, and I am waiting, hopefully, this week to see if there is anything that will be concluded.

"I know Lyle wants to make a move, so if you noticed we have brought (Riyaad) Norodien and Gift (Links), both of them are wingers, they can play both sides, so it will be something we would entertain if it materialises."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
