Coetzee acquisition is 'for the now', says Rodgers

Cape Town - Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers believes that new signing Rivaldo Coetzee will prove to be an excellent acquisition, and praised the player's natural ability.

The 20-year-old recently left Ajax Cape Town to sign for the Scottish Premier League champions, in what will be his first experience of European football.

The Bafana Bafana defender is rated as one of South Africa's hottest prospects and appears set for a glittering career with the Hoops.

In addition, Coetzee will have UEFA Champions League football to look forward to with Celtic, after they qualified for the group stages.

"Well I believe there's been an agreement," Rodgers told reporters.

"There's a medical and what not to go through. He's an outstanding young player that we think can help us, but it's not complete yet.

"It's not just for the now, it's for the longer term. He's a player that can come straight in, he's a full international player so has great qualities, good defensive qualities, and if we can get that done then it'll be a very good signing for us."
