Cocaine bust: Pirates mum on player's identity

Cape Town - Following the surprising news of an Orlando Pirates player testing positive for the use of cocaine, the club is yet to reveal the player's identity.

Sport24 reported on Wednesday that the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS) confirmed a player from the Soweto giants tested positive for cocaine in a recent routine drug test.

Hours after the news broke, Pirates released a statement acknowledging the report and revealed that the club will "conduct its own investigation."

On Thursday, Sport24 had been informed about the player's identity from a reliable source which will remain disclosed until further notice.

The player will appear in court on August 31 after which his name will be made public.

Meanwhile, the PSL has remained silent and refrained to comment on the matter.
