Clever Boys too smart for the Urban Warriors

Cape Town - Wits made short work of Ajax Cape Town in their Premiership encounter at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night, claiming a mammoth 5-0 win.

Wits came into the match flying high, level on points with Cape Town City and SuperSport United at the top of the Premiership standings and proved their title credentials with another superb display against the Urban Warriors.

Despite their clear dominance, they nearly found themselves behind in the 16th minute when Darren Keet had to pull off a fine save to deny Tashreeq Morris.

Unfortunately for the visitors, that was pretty much their best chance of the entire game and it was pretty much all the Clever Boys for the remainder of the match.

Just four minutes after Ajax's chance, the hosts made their pressure pay as Phakamani Mahlambi showed his positional awareness and cool head in front of goal to slot his side into the lead.

Mahlambi and Elias Pelembe were a constant nuisance to the Ajax back four, but it would be Thulani Hlatshwayo who would double their advantage as he rose to head home a Mogakolodi Ngele corner in the 31st minute.

Things went from bad to worse for the Mother City outfit after the break with Gabadinho Mhango pouncing on a defensive error to make it 3-0 in the 59th minute, just two minutes after he had come on as a substitute.

The match was effectively over as a contest two minutes later when Keene timed his jump to perfection to head Sifiso Hlanti's cross into the back of the net.

However, the home side were not done there, as Mhango got on the end of a Daine Klate ball to bury his second goal of the evening and cap an impressive 5-0 win for Wits.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
