Clever Boys hold off Bakgaga to keep TKO dream alive

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits advanced through to the Telkom Knockout semi-finals after a 1-0 win over Baroka FC at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.

Both sides had early chances before the hosts broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Amr Gamal reacted sharply to toe in a pass from Vincent Pule.

The Clever Boys continued to create opportunities, but Daine Klate and Elias Pelembe were denied by Baroka keeper Virgil Vries before Gamal curled a shot wide in the 19th minute.

Vries was called into action again 10 minutes before the break when he moved out quickly to save at Pule's feet.

At the other end, home keeper Darren Keet pulled off an ever more impressive stop when he denied Gift Motupa 10 minutes before the interval.

Klate wasted another chance for Wits to increase their tally when he headed straight at Vries on 44 minutes. Keet did well on the hour mark to make two stops in quick succession, first from Albert Mothupa and then from Robin Ngalande.

The Students keeper was called into action 10 minutes later to keep out Talent Chawapiwa as the visiting team continued to threaten.

Baroka were unable though to create any clear-cut chances in the closing minutes of the match as the Students defended superbly to claim victory and a place in the semi-finals.
