Cape Town - Chippa United frustrated Bidvest Wits to hold them to a 0-0 draw in their Premiership clash at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Tuesday night.
The encounter got off to a slow start with a tight midfield battle being ensued, as the central pairing of Granwald Scott and Thabang Monare gave Chippa playmaker Thamsanqa Sangweni little of the ball.
Debutant Reeve Frosler looked lively on the right wing for the visitors as he looked to play in crosses to the attacking duo of Cuthbert Malajila and Gabadinho Mhango.
The Chilli Boys' defence did well to thwart the Clever Boys' aerial threat with Justice Chabalala proving instrumental in defence for the home side.
Chippa came out in the second half with more of an attacking intent and brought on Sandile Zuke for Paseka Mako, but were unable to penetrate the Wits defence with their patient build-up.
Gavin Hunt introduced Phakamani Mahlambi for Mhango in the 62nd minute as the Clever Boys went for broke.
Chippa were unfortunate to have a penalty decision not go their way when Andile Mbenyane appeared to have been impeded in the area, but the referee waved play-on much to the dismay of the home fans.
Neither side was able to find the winner in the closing stages as they both shut up shop to claim a point apiece.
