Cape Town - Chippa United and Golden Arrows both lacked a cutting edge as the played out a 0-0 draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.
Chippa had the first real attack early on when they were able to get the better of Limbikani Mzava, but Nkanyiso Mngwengwe got the block in for a corner. A few minutes later and they worked another chance, but it was headed over the crossbar.
Mngwengwe then was able to pick out Knox Mutizwa, who turned in the box and got a shot away, but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper.
Chippa had another chance when Mzwandile Buthelezi erred to give the Chilli Boys a break, putting Mxolisi Macuphu one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Nkosingiphile Gumede was able to make the save.
Chippa though were on the front foot again, this time with Kurt Lentjies getting the better of Musa Bilankulu and Buthelezi conceding a free-kick as he tried to cover for his fellow defender.
Katlego Mashego took the resulting free kick, which deflected off the wall for a corner.
Arrows had a good chance to score when Musa Bilankulu won the ball in midfield and Danny Venter was able to play it out wide for Kudakwashe Mahachi, but his shot was an easy save for Daniel Akpeyi.
Chippa had another attempt in the 28th minute when Thabo Rakhale got the better of Lehlohonolo Nonyane and was able to get the shot away, but once again Gumede saved the day for Arrows.
The next chance fell to Arrows, with Kudakwashe Mahachi winning the ball in midfield and setting up Venter for a shot, but Akpeyi was up to it and able to make the save.
Arrows were more positive after the break, working the Chippa defence with Mutizwa testing Akpeyi, while the best chances fell to Venter and Mahachi but both their efforts were sliced wide of goal.
