Chiefs set for 'titanic' Downs battle

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs have labelled their upcoming Premiership encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns as 'titanic' as the league resumes after the international break.

The Glamour Boys travel to Pretoria to take on the reigning Premier Soccer League champions on November 19 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Chiefs inhabit third place in the standings while Sundowns are in 15th place, however, Pitso Mosimane's men have only played three games due to their CAF Champions League commitments.

Depite it being relatively early in the campaign, the clash is being billed as one that could have serious implications in the title race come May next year.

Interestingly, both outfits come into the contest on the back of defeats in the Telkom Knockout. Amakhosi lost to Free State Stars on penalties while the Brazilians fell to the same fate against SuperSport United.

Nonetheless, Chiefs have revealed that Saturday's battle with Masandawana could be of major significance.

A statement on the club's official website said: "It will be the first game after the Fifa-break. Chiefs and Sundowns go into this titanic battle at the backdrop of losses in their past games, in the Telkom Knockout."

Meanwhile, Downs will reportedly play the match with the star representing their CAF Champions League win emblazoned on their jerseys.

Masandawana coach Pitso Mosimane confirmed that he has turned down an offer from Egyptian giants Zamalek saying that although he was flattered by the interest shown in his services, he was emotionally attached to the Pretoria-based club and had a job to do.
