Chiefs must sign Manyama, says McCarthy

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy believes that in-form Cape Town City attacking midfielder Lebogang Manyama is a signing the club must look to make.

The former Bafana Bafana international takes the view that signing Manyama should be a priority, rather than Royal Eagles defender Karabo Litabe. The Glamour Boys have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old.

He told Soccer Laduma: "I'm sorry, but I don't know the young man (Litabe), so I can't comment on his ability, but I don't see why they need to bring in a defender, because it was only the game against Chippa United that they conceded many goals, but they conceded the goals based on a little misunderstanding.

"I mean, (Siyanda) Xulu hasn't played for a while and now you're going to bring in a whole new player. Are you going to bring in a whole new player and hope he fits in the squad and will play? So I don't see the need to sign any defensive players. They must sign offensive players, attacking players, players that can score goals.

"For me, the player (that Chiefs need to sign) would be (Lebogang) Manyama from Cape Town City, nobody else."

The 26-year-old Manyama has scored eight goals and provided five assists in all competitions this season, and played a major role in helping City win the Telkom Knockout Final.

Kick off is at 19:45.
