Chiefs midfielder set for Maritzburg loan - report

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan will be sent out on a loan spell to Maritzburg United when the January transfer window opens.

According to an unnamed Sport24 source, the Cape Town-born midfielder is looking to play more regularly and has been seeking a move away from Naturena.

Buchanan, 25, has been competing with the likes of George Maluleka, Willard Katsande, Hendrick Ekstein, and Joseph Malongoane for a place in Steve Komphela's starting XI.

The rising talent of Wiseman Meyiwa has also further scuppered Buchanan's chances of regular game time as his name moves further down the pecking order.

The midfielder joined the Amakhosi ranks at the beginning of the 2016/17 season but has struggled to make a real impact due to long-term injuries.

Buchanan has made no more than ten appearances since joining Chiefs from Bloemfontein Celtic.

Meanwhile, Buchanan's Chiefs team-mate Brilliant Khuzwayo is set to depart the club when the transfer window opens.

Cape Town City are said to be the goalkeeper's likely suitors after having to play second fiddle to Itumeleng Khune.
