Chiefs' Mathoho to miss Ajax match

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has confirmed that Eric Mathoho will miss the match against Ajax Cape Town.

Last week ahead of Bafana Bafana's FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso, Mathoho received the news of his brother passing away.

However, the defender remained with the senior national squad and went onto feature for South Africa against the Burkinabe's.

Bafana Bafana were held to a 1-1 draw and Mathoho played the full 90 minutes.

“We had the Bafana Bafana players back in camp on Thursday morning and we had to monitor them before Saturday, but we won't have Tower (Mathoho) as he is attending a funeral at home,” Komphela said as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

Despite the loss of such an important player, Komphela is confident he has enough players to fill the void left by the 26-year-old.

“But that's football you cannot always have all the players available for a game and that's why there are enough players to cover each other," Komphela added.

Chiefs host Ajax at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
