Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that defender Eric Mathoho has started undergoing rehabilitation for the ankle injury he picked up while on international duty.
The 26-year-old tore a ligament while playing for the South Africa Under-23 side at the Rio Olympics.
His absence has proved to be a real dilemma for head coach Steve Komphela, who appears yet to have settled on his most trusted central defensive partnership.
Nonetheless, Chiefs have confirmed that Tower has started exercises to recover strength in his ankle and could come back into contention in the not too distant future.
A statement on the club's official website said: "Erick Mathoho has started on the training field with rehabilitation following the ankle injury he picked up at the Rio Olympics. It is so far so good for Tower, but he remains under the watchful eye of the medical team."
The Glamour Boys next league match is against Platinum Stars on September 14, however, the big centre-back is not expected to be ready for the clash.
