Celtic edge Maritzburg as impressive start continues

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United on Tuesday taking them up to third in the Premiership.

The two teams cancelled each other out for much of the contest in Bloemfontein, with no chances coming in the opening 15 minutes.

But Siwelele took the first opportunity that came their way on 16 minutes as Jacky Motshegwa capitalised on a defensive lapse to break the deadlock with a composed finish.

The Team of Choice looked dangerous in the final third, but they failed to test Patrick Tignyemb in the home goal.

Patient build-up play from Celtic in the 35th minute led to a chance for Lantshene Phalane, although the midfielder was unable to keep his strike down.

The hosts went into the half-time break with their one-goal lead, but they showed little attacking intent in the second half as the visitors began to control proceedings.

However, Fadlu Davids' men were unable to break down a resolute home defence and saw their winless run in the league extend to six games.
