Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse believes the current team has enough quality to conquer in the CAF Champions League.
The high-flying Sundowns are the only remaining South African club in continental competition this season, and Carelse has backed the table-topping Brazilians to clinch the Premiership and also challenge for honours in the CAF showpiece.
"At the moment, currently, yes they are handling it very well. It's difficult to say because you can only judge that depending on where they finish up in the Champions League eventually and obviously if they go on to win the league," Carelse told Goal.
"They are on form, a lot of their players are doing well for the club in the Champions League and the domestic league. So, I am hoping it remains like that because they surely want that star and they deserve to get it.
"In the last five or ten years they have been the team that has been dominating domestically, as well as getting as far as the final of the Champions League.
"Obviously, Pirates has a lot of quality as well as Sundowns. I think the other teams fall short because they haven't been competing in Africa as regularly as Sundowns and Pirates have done."
