Cape Town City target Pienaar

Cape Town - New Premiership outfit Cape Town City FC are interested in bringing Steven Pienaar back to the Mother City as their marquee signing.

Club owner John Comitis confirmed their interest in the former South Africa international at their official launch at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

"If Steven Pienaar is prepared to drop his salary requirements, his signing is definitely something we would do," Comitis told KickOff.

"I'd love to bring Steven back to where it all started for him, remember I signed him for Ajax Cape Town in 2000 and used to advise him, so it would be fitting if he returns to finish his career in Cape Town."

Since leaving Ajax Cape Town in 2001, Pienaar enjoyed a 15-year career in Europe, turning out for the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Tottenham.
