Cale to undergo surgery

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town winger Franklin Cale will undergo surgery this week to fix a broken bone in his face suffered in last weekend’s Absa Premiership loss to Chippa United in East London, his club said.

Cale had a head-on-head collision with Chippa United captain James Okwuosa suffering a fracture to his Zygomatic Arch.

That is the bone situated just above his cheekbone, which Ajax said was “a very awkward place to sustain an injury as it has the ability to interrupt many parts of the head”.

Cale could miss up to six weeks of action after surgery in a setback for struggling Ajax, who have won just once in their last 10 matches.

But they do have Abbubaker Mobara back after a hamstring injury saw him miss the 3-1 loss in East London on Sunday

He is back in contention for a place in the starting line-up to face Lamontville Golden Arrows in Cape Town on Friday.
