Botes: We have big personalities

Cape Town - As the season enters a thrilling finale, Bidvest Wits marksman Henrico Botes believes his side has the right kind of characters in the dressing room.

The Clever Boys didn't perform at their usual high standards, but still managed to get the best of Jomo Cosmos at Olen Park on Wednesday night.

They showed their experience as they came away with a 1-0 win thanks to some tenacious defending. Namibian international Botes netted the game's only goal.

The likes of Botes, Moeneeb Josephs, Daine Klate and Nazeer Allie are all veteran campaigners, and will likely play their part in keeping Wits' title race alive, the club just four points off the summit with six games to go.

"It was a difficult game, a fight from the first whistle to the last. Luckily we have characters in the team, big players with big personalities," Botes said after the win against Ezenkosi.

"I think the ball spent more time in the air than on the ground. For us as a team it is about getting the three points whenever we can. From here on we are in the business end of the season with only six games left."

He continued: "We need to collect as many points as possible, and hopefully end the season in the number one spot.

"We need to rest and enjoy the victory and then put it behind us. Saturday [a league encounter at home to Free State Stars] will be another fight and hopefully we will be able to collect the three points and keep our momentum going."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
