Cape Town - Mpumalanga Black Aces edged out Free State Stars 1-0 in an Absa Premiership clash played at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday afternoon.
AmaZayoni moved to position four on the Absa Premiership standings following their win, while Ea Lla Koto slipped down to spot number 12 on the league log.
The home side began the match brightly and they managed to score just a minute into the game through Zamuxolo Ngalo's finish.
Ea Lla Koto had a chance to equalise from a corner-kick in the 20th minute, but Aces’ defence did well to clear Nyiko Tshabangu's effort from the set-piece.
AmaZayoni managed to contain Ea Lla Koto until the match referee blew for half-time. The former were leading 1-0 during the break.
In the 59th minute, Aces head coach Muhsin Ertugral made a tactical change, introducing Bhongolethu Jayiya for Bryce Moon.
Ashraf Hendricks was having a good game at the heart of the Aces defence, containing Stars striker Ayanda Nkosi who had netted in their previous competitive game.
Both teams launched late attacks in search of a late goal, but it never came and Aces emerged 1-0 winners.
