Billiat wanted in Egypt - report

Cape Town - Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek both want to sign Khama Billiat, according to widespread reports.

The former Chicken Inn and Ajax Cape Town winger was named as South Africa's Footballer of Season for 2015/16, with his exhilarating pace, skill and goal-scoring prowess underlining his match-winning ability.

Billiat has also shone in Mamelodi Sundowns' CAF Champions League campaign and scored and created a goal in the Brazilians' 2-1 win over Zamalek in Cairo two weekends ago.

According to reports, the winger is now wanted by both Al Ahly, Egypt's record-breaking eight-time Champions League winners, as well as Zamalek, who have won the continental title five times.

The Herald newspaper claim that Al Ahly football director Abdel-Aziz Abdel Shafi has asked agent Shady Mostafa El-Tawila to try and negotiate a deal with Sundowns.

"We would like to authorise you personally to start the discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns FC of South Africa regarding the possible transfer of the above mentioned player (Khama Billiat)," the publication quoted a source as saying.

It’s not only in Africa, however, where Billiat is attracting attention.

"There is a scramble for Khama Billiat’s signature from some overseas clubs," claimed another source.

"Three French top-flight clubs are chasing for the Warriors talisman. About four in Belgium are making inquiries for the same man.

"Interest in Khama has really multiplied as even clubs from China and North Africa are all after him," said the source.

AS Monaco and Lille are thought to be two of the interested French clubs.
