Billiat: I need to work harder

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Khama Billiat has dismissed rumours that a possible move to Europe is behind his recent run of poor form.

The Zimbabwean international has not shown the form that saw him win footballer of the season during the last campaign, and reports have begun to emerge that the former Ajax Cape Town man is distracted.

"I don't believe it has to do with my performance," Billiat told the SowetanLIVE website.

"Even last season, there were moments when it looked like I was going to leave the team. I didn't,  and I still kept on going."

Billiat had the season of his life in 2015/16, finding the back of the net 15 times, and laying on 17 assists and subsequently attracted the attention of Egyptian giants Zamalek and Al Ahly, as well as Ligue 1 side Rennes.

However, he has scored just five times in 20 appearances this season, and has four assists, and fans have been craving to see the Billiat of old again.

"I also want to see him (Billiat of last season). I just need to work a little bit harder like my coach has been saying," the Zimbabwe international added.

Sundowns will be hoping they can get their title defence back on track when they meet SuperSport United at Loftus on Thursday evening.

Kick off is at 18:00.
