Benni set to miss City matches in March, April

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy is set to miss some major matches in March and April as he finishes his UEFA Pro license in Northern Ireland during those months.

The Citizens boss could be unavailable for March's Nedbank Cup second round tie with Orlando Pirates although the exact dates for the fixture have yet to be announced by the Premier Soccer League.

In addition, he could miss games in the following month during what could be the crucial phase of the Absa Premiership season in terms of the chase for the title.

The club from the Mother City are still mathematically in the race for the title as they are in sixth position with an eight-point deficit to make up on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Bafana Bafana legend has to sit two more examinations for his qualification in March, before his final exam in April.

The 40-year-old reportedly told the Sowetan he cannot afford to skip another instalment of his course after being given permission to sit out part of the scheduled curriculum in January.

The pro license is regarded as the highest qualification achievable in world football and can take over two years to finish. It also does not come cheap with each candidate having to fork out R150 000 to pay for it.
