Benni: Montpellier will make Dolly stronger

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana striking legend Benni McCarthy believes that Keagan Dolly's decision to leave Mamelodi Sundowns for Montpellier in France's Ligue 1 is a step in the right direction for his career.

Dolly,24, signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Montpellier.

"I think it was good for him to experience something different," McCarthy told Soccer Laduma.

"In South African football, if you have that talent, you have to go and get stronger.

"It will help Keagan mentally, it will be a nice mental challenge for him because he has to learn to speak French, and so that alone makes you tough."

McCarthy spent a number of years in Europe with the likes of Ajax Amsterdam, Celta Vigo, Porto, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.

"It will make him a better player because he is going to come up against and face a lot of circumstances where you don't understand what you’re team-mates are saying and you don't understand what the coach wants from you, but it is part of growing up.

"I think because he is talented, he is a very good player, it will just make him a stronger guy and a better player. When he comes to the national team, people are going to see the difference. That he is physically strong."
