Cape Town – Former Bafana Bafana forward Benni McCarthy says that he hopes South Africa develops soccer talents that can surpass the lengths he has reached.
McCarthy donned the Bafana Bafana colours over 75-times and has netted 32-goals in the process to gaining legendary status.
South Africa have long last for a legit replacement over the years and have develop some great players in the mould of Shaun Bartlett, Steven Pienaar and Thulani Serrero.
However, none have come close as to what McCarthy has achieved in his illustrious football career.
Comparisons have occurred throughout the season as Bidvest Wits youngster Phakamani Mahlambi is being touted as to become the next “Benni”.
According to KickOff, the 38-year-old says that Mahlambi could be better than him if he or any other player is willing to put in the work.
“Everyone deserves a chance – if he is young and willing to work and to make sacrifices, if he is a good football player, he has got a good chance to be the next Benni McCarthy, or being better than me,” says McCarthy.
“I pray that we do develop talents to go to greater lengths than where I have been. I have been around for so long now and it’s about time I get replaced by somebody worthy.”
