Baroka seal PSL promotion

Cape Town - Baroka FC have been crowned National First Division (NFD) champions to secure their promotion to the Premiership next season.

Bakgaga graduated to the top tier of South African football with their 1-1 draw against Milano FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

The Limpopo outfit had to come from behind in their final game of the season to salvage a point. Mzawanele Mahashe opened the scoring for Milano in the 46th minute after he caught the opposition defence napping.

But Thabiso Kutumela equalized in the 70th minute after Sphamandla Sangweni provided him with a nice assist with the chest inside the box.

Baroka had missed an earlier chance earlier to take the lead from the penalty spot, but Kutumela's attempt was saved by Lee Langerveldt. They finished the season with 60 points following 17 wins, nine draws and four losses.

NFD runners-up Highlands Park and third-placed Mbombela United have earned the right to contest the Premiership play-offs with University of Pretoria.

Despite thrashing AmaZulu 4-1, Highlands United were unable to dislodge Baroka at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, African Warriors were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League after a 3-2 defeat against Thanda Royal Zulu at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex.

Thanda escaped the relegation chop courtesy of the victory to finish 14th on the table while Warriors joined AmaZulu in the third-tier league.

NFD results:

Santos 1-2 FC Cape Town

Vasco da Gama 0-1 Black Leopards

Royal Eagles 3-1 Mthatha Bucks

Mbombela United 1-0 Cape Town All Stars
