Arrows edge Urban Warriors

Cape Town - Golden Arrows won for only the second time in 17 Absa Premiership matches as they eased their relegation fears with a narrow 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Ajax Cape Town in KwaMashu on Sunday.

After a dour opening, the breakthrough arrived just before the half-hour mark when Lerato Lamola was felled in the penalty area by Mosa Lebusa, with Limbikani Mzava stepping up to lash in the spot-kick.

Clear-cut chances continued to be few and far between with defender Mzava again in the mix with a chance before the break which he blasted over.

Ajax’s best chance came in the 56th minute when a Tashreeq Morris free-kick to the back post beat Mbaeva, but Roscoe Pietersen mistimed his jumped as the chance went begging.

With nine minutes to play, Danny Venter almost found the second goal with his 20-yard strike that whisked centimetres over.

Fortunately for Arrows it was not a costly miss as they sealed victory that moved them to 26 points, five ahead of Ajax.
