Ajax win a mental boost says Kekana

Cape Town - The hard-fought 2-0 win over Ajax Cape Town has increased the belief that Mamelodi Sundowns can win the league title, says captain Hlompho Kekana.

After struggling for form in March and in the earlier parts of April, the Brazilians have now won four consecutive league games to move to within two points of leaders Cape Town City, with two matches in hand.

It started with a 5-0 thrashing of SuperSport United. But after that Downs had to grind out victories against Free State Stars, SuperSport United (both 1-0) and Ajax (2-0).

But those kinds of performances are just what the Tshwane club needs to get the defence of their league title right on track, says Kekana.

"It wasn't one of our prettiest games, but we knew that we had to grind the result and that's what we did," the Bafana midfielder said after the Tuesday's victory over the Urban Warriors at Loftus.

"That was one of our goals - we said at the beginning of the season that we really need to make sure we win every match we play.

"It's never an easy task. There are challenges that we face, but we are up for the task and I'm happy with the boys. They made sure that we got the points.

"We made sure we stuck to the game plan which was to make sure that we keep possession because Ajax are stubborn," the Bafana Bafana midfielder added.

"The three points is important for us, to keep fighting, to be there with the top boys. I think with these three points, I think it gives us an edge to say 'we can do it'."
