Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town have announced the signing of Ghana international Lawrence Lartey on a two-year deal following a successful trial spell at the club.
The 22-year-old former Ashanti Gold centre-back has signed on the dotted line after featuring for the Urban Warriors in the friendlies against fellow Cape sides Milano and Santos.
Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou revealed the Urban Warriors has been chasing the signature of the promising player for quite some time, since 2013 to be exact.
He told the club's official website: "We have been trying to lure Lawrence to join us since 2013 and we are thrilled to have him join Ajax CT.
"He is a natural leader with fantastic international experience. He is a strong, quick and very intelligent defender and a very valuable addition to the Ajax squad, especially going into our upcoming CAF campaign."
Lartey, meanwhile, praised the high standard of football in South Africa's top flight, and said he could envisage himself improving over the next two seasons.
"It has been good to be part of a club with so many good young players," said Lartey. "This is a great club in general and the players here are on a good level.
"The facilities are the best I've experienced so far. South African football has developed a lot; I can see myself developing into a better player here.
"This is a good step in my career, I am happy to finally sign for Ajax."
