Ajax confirm Coetzee to Celtic dream move

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town announced late on Monday night that defender Rivaldo Coetzee has joined Scottish champions, Celtic.

The 20-year-old Bafana Bafana regular has been pushing for an overseas move for some time now, and initially missed Ajax's pre-season training.

Sport24 revealed that Coetzee will this week depart to Scotland where he will undergo a medical before being unveiled by the Parkhead outfit imminently.

He was in the team for Saturday night's 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows, a game in which he scored his first goal for the club.

But that was to be his last action for the Urban Warriors after sealing a move to the 48-time league winners Celtic, who are currently on a 52 game unbeaten run and who are involved in Champions League qualifying games.

Coetzee will help ease the problems manager Brendan Rodgers has in defence, where several of his regular starters are injured.

"Ajax Cape Town IS extremely proud to announce an agreement with Glasgow Celtic, for the sale of defender Rivaldo Coetzee HAS BEEN CONCLUDED," the club stated on their website.

"The Urban Warriors have since its inception in 1999 paved the way for African stars to make their way to the riches of the European Leagues, and Coetzee will now join the likes of Steven Pienaar, Daylon Claasen, Eyong Enoh and Thulani Serero in making the move abroad from the Parow-based club."

Coetzee must reportedly still undergo a medical and arrange a work permit, while there has been no mention of the details of his contract.
