Xulu, Mathoho partnership will grow

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Bradley Carnell has backed the new centre-back partnership of Siyanda Xulu and Eric Mathoho and hopes they manage to develop an understanding as the season progresses.

Carnell says that although he has not seen Xulu play in recent years as he was playing for Russian side FC Rostov, he believes that the partnership with Mathoho will strengthen as they both feature in many matches together and that will bring substance to Amakhosi.

“Look, I have not seen a lot of Siyanda in recent years," Carnell told Sport24.

“Maybe we need to give him and the new centre back partnership about four to five matches to really make a good assessment of them.

“But I think they will grow an understanding with time."

On Saturday, August 22 Amakhosi dominated Free State Stars at the FNB Stadium sealing a 4-0 win.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
