Wits v AmaZulu postponed

Johannesburg - Heavy rain and lightning forced the Absa Premiership match between BidVest Wits and AmaZulu to be postponed at the Milpark Stadium on Saturday night.

The match will be played at the same venue at 15: 30 on Sunday.

Rain and lightning initially delayed the start of the match for 30 minutes.

Then the floodlights failed at 18: 30, 30 minutes after the scheduled kick-off. It was believed lightning had struck the floodlights.

The heavens opened up an hour before the scheduled 6pm kick-off. Referee Thabo Nkosi and match commissioner Ian McLeod decided to wait until the lightning stopped fearing for the players’ safety. The rain started around 17:00 and lasted for nearly 90 minutes.

The pitch has good drainage but Nkosi and McLeod decided at 18:40 to postponed the match until Sunday afternoon, The handful of fans who pitched up were huddled at the top of the main grandstand out of the driving rain and few complained when the game was called off.
