Cape Town - SuperSport United and Wits on Friday advised that discussions between the two clubs and Gavin Hunt (SuperSport United coach), regarding his coaching role as of next season, have been suspended.
Hunt believes this is best as talk and speculation regarding his future could distract him from the job at hand.
SuperSport are currently well-placed in three major competitions.
A statement released by SuperSport said, “We will be revisited at the end of the Premier Soccer League season with Hunt insisting he remains completely committed to his job at SuperSport United.
“My loyalty is firmly with my club, SuperSport United. I need to focus on my job and will consider my options at the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, José Ferreira, CEO of Wits, stated: “We respect Gavin’s position as coach of SuperSport United and support his need to focus on that. We won’t engage in speculation over his or our future plans and as previously advised, we will only take a decision on our Head Coach for next season in May.”
Stan Matthews, SuperSport United’s Director of Football, said: “Gavin is fully committed to the club, which is on an excellent run. We have three very important ambitions; finishing in the top four of the PSL, advancing through to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup and doing well in the Nedbank Cup. I asked for, and received, Gavin’s absolute commitment to these.”
