Wits not expecting pretty game

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits assistant coach Paul Johnstone is not expecting the prettiest game of football against Ajax Cape Town in Saturday night’s first leg of the MTN8 semi-final.

Johnstone told Sport24 that although the weather conditions will be difficult, the Clever Boys are more than ready and are certainly up for a fight.

"It will certainly be a tough game for us, but our boys are more than ready," he told Sport24.

"There will be difficult conditions out there this evening looking at the weather and knowing the pitch isn’t the best."

The assistant coach emphasised that Wits were familiar with the Coetzenburg stadium as the team did their pre-season training there.

"It won’t be the prettiest game of football but we are certainly up for the fight. We are familiar with Coetzenburg as we did our pre-season here," said Johnstone.

"Whether the match works in our favour or not? I’m not sure.

"We know Ajax will be going all out after having lost to us in the league last weekend and they will feel they deserved more out of that game, but we are prepared for that and will do what’s necessary to put us in a good position for our home leg at the end of the month."

The Clever Boys will challenge the Urban Warriors in the first leg of the MTN8 clash on Saturday, August 15 at Coetzenburg stadium.

Kick-off is set for 20:15.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
