Wits made elementary mistakes

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits assistant coach Paul Johnstone bemoaned the chances the team had when they played against Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend which resulted in a loss to their side.

Johnstone said that they made elementary mistakes which cost The Clever Boys a win against Sundowns but praised the team for playing well throughout the match.

The assistant coach praised the left and right back players and goal scorer Daine Klate for their efforts which awarded them three points on the PSL log.

“Look I thought we had a lot of chances throughout the game and we played relatively well for the first half of it,” he told Sport24.

“Of course they were some elementary mistakes which we looked back to on the video with Gavin and there are really some things we could have avoided.

“It happens sometimes; you just have to know what your mistakes are and rectify them so you avoid making the same errors next time.

“We are a team with players of such calibre and we can’t afford to fall into the same traps.

“On the other hand there were a lot of positives in the match, especially scoring against a team like Sundowns because they are really great.

“We felt we could have done a lot better and not conceded those four goals but it was one of those days at the office for us.

“We thought our left and right back were looking very good and of course Daine Klate did exceptionally well, he always has a lot of surprises up his sleeve.

“Nonetheless football is football and you just have to keep on improving,” he concluded.

Bidvest Wits lost 2-4 against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, August 22 at Lucas Moripe stadium with Daine Klate on the score sheet for both goals.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
