Wits keep eyes on top spot

Cape Town - University of Pretoria and Bidvest Wits will meet for the Absa Premiership’s ‘Varsity Derby’ at Tuks Stadium.

University of Pretoria suffered their second defeat of the season when they were beaten 4-0 at Chippa United on August 25.

The Tshwane side’s previous home match was a comfortable 3-0 win over Polokwane City on August 22.

AmaTuks are placed 14th on the Absa Premiership log with three points from as many matches.

Wits returned to winning form when they beat Maritzburg United 2-0 at home on August 26.

The Johannesburg side’s previous away match was a 4-2 loss at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Clever Boys are placed third on the Absa Premiership log with six points from three matches.

In head-to-head stats, Tuks and Wits have met in six league matches since 2012/13.

The Clever Boys have an unbeaten record in the sequence, with two wins and four draws against their opponents.

Tuks have held Wits to two draws and suffered one defeat in their three home matches against the Johannesburg team.

Last season the teams shared the spoils both in Johannesburg (1-1) and the return game in Pretoria (0-0).

The teams’ six league matches have produced just six goals, and they have played to three scoreless draws.

Kick-off is at 15:00 on Sunday, September 13.
