Johannesburg - Platinum Stars drew 1-1 with Bidvest Wits in their final Absa premiership match of the season at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.
Both teams looked tired after a long PSL season.
Despite the average result for coach Roger de Sa's Students, it had no bearing on their log position as they remain in sixth position with 40 points from their 30 games.
In the first half, it was Wits, strong at home this season, who began the game cautiously. Their free-flowing, fast play earlier in the campaign was absent and the visiting Stars began to dominate the match.
In the 12th minute, Wits saw their best chance of the half falling to Ryan Chapman. He was in the perfect position in the middle of the box for the cross but his shot sailed over the goals.
Stars put together a period of dominating play and, in the 28th minute, they scored the opening goal of the game. Wits were guilty of poor defending and the visitors were allowed to move the ball around freely in the area and Bradley Grobler tapped in from close range to make it 1-0 to Stars.
Wits began to mount a challenge in the second half but they did not create enough chances for their strikers.
The 'Clever Boys' dominated territory but could not hold onto the ball for sustained periods while Stars were content to mount counterattacks.
Wits finally levelled the score in the 80th minute through a Chapman strike from a Letsie Koapeng cross on the left wing.
His strike from the right hand side of the box had the beating of Siyabonga Mpontshane in the Stars goal as the home side levelled the scores at 1-1.
