'We can lift PSL title again'

Johannesburg - SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes his side still has a great chance of winning their fourth successive PSL title if they can build on Saturday's win over AmaZulu.

A deflected goal from Brent Carelse in the eighth minute handed Matsatsantsa their second victory of the season in a performance the mentor described as 'a battle'.

Next up for the defending champions is a home clash with unbeaten Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday and Hunt is hopeful his side can now put together the kind of unbeaten run that propelled them to the top of last season's standings.

"It will be a tough game because they have had a great start to the season and we will find it hard," he said.

"But if we can win that game then we would only be three points off the top so it's important we can perform on the night."

He added: "It's too early to make any predictions - anyone can beat anyone. We just have to try and get some consistency because it is all about momentum with us."

SuperSport were without a competitive fixture since September 18 prior to their clash with AmaZulu, which Hunt believes has fueled their struggle for consistency.

He said: "It's been a slow start because we havent even played. It's been nearly four weeks since our last match so it can be hard to get a run going."

To make matters worse, United will be without the suspended Morgan Gould on Wednesday night as they bid to cut down the deficit on league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

But Hunt will be able to call upon Bafana Bafana star Bongani Khumalo, who the coach confirmed is expected to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

"He's going in January," Hunt said.

"It's just something we have to accept but if I'd kept all my players then we would win the league by 20 points every season so we can't use that as an excuse."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
