Walters wants no.1 jersey

Cape Town - Shu-Aib Walters has sent out a friendly warning to Jackson Mabokgwane, his team-mate and rival, over a starting spot at Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Walters joined recently from Maritzburg United and the 33-year-old has warned Mabokgwane that he still has a number of years left to compete at the highest level.

"My first and foremost goal is to compete for that number one spot," Walters told Sport24.

"It is going to be a tough battle with Mabokgwane but I have always played my best when I have had stiff competition.

"I think this challenge can bring out another dimension to my football as a whole."

Walters also said that he is already enjoying working with Muhsin Ertugral.

"Clayton Daniels has worked with (Ernst) Middendorp and Muhsin and he said that they have a lot of similarities so I knew in that sense it would be easy for me because I worked with Middendorp for three years," said Walters.

"They have a similar philosophy, similar discipline and similar expectations," the goalkeeper concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
