Vermezovic searching for answers

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic admits he is at a loss to explain his side's faltering form, but plans to investigate the situation during the coming days.

The Buccaneers have proved largely inconsistent this term, having failed to win any of their opening three Premiership encounters, while they most recently lost back-to-back matches, against Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 Final (1-0) and Chippa United on Saturday, September 27.

The 1-0 loss at the Chilli Boys left Pirates fifth in the top-flight standings, already 10 points behind runaway leaders Chiefs, and Vermezovic admits he needs to quickly discover the source of their struggles, before it is too late.

"We are not the same team we were in the beginning of the season. We've lost our command of possession, we've lost our energy," the Serbian tactician said after their Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium defeat.

“I'm going to find out what's happened.”

“(On Saturday) and the last game against Kaizer Chiefs, we lacked energy. I don't know what's going on but I am going to find out for sure.”

“I have some idea of what's going on and I'll try as soon as possible to fix these problems,” he added.

Pirates next game is in the Telkom Knockout Challenge when they face Polokwane City on Sunday, October 5 at 15:00.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
