Johannesburg - Vladimir Vermezovic says Kaizer Chiefs paid the price for poor finishing after their 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday.
In a game of two halves, Amakhosi started brightly and stole ahead when Knowledge Musona steered home Jimmy Tau's assist in the 28th minute.
United, however, grew in confidence as the match matured and bagged a late equaliser through Rudolph Bester in the 73rd minute - much to Vermozovic's obvious disappointment.
"We started the game well and created lot of chances especially in the second half. It shows that in football if you do not take your chances you are bound to be punished," he told Chiefs' official website.
He added that some of his players may have been thinking ahead to Saturday night's MTN8 semi-final clash with Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.
"It happens at times when you have a big game like we have on Saturday. The most important fixture for us was this game against Maritzburg and we will start focusing on Pirates on Thursday," said the Chiefs coach.
