Vermezovic: I won't be shut up

Soweto - A defiant Vladimir Vermezovic said he would not be silenced by the Premier Soccer League’s reported intention to charge him after he criticised the medical care of Itumeleng Khune last week.

“I said what I saw and if someone wants to stop me from talking that will be very difficult,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach after his club’s defeat on Tuesday at home to Black Leopards.

“If I’m going to be charged because of the saying the truth, I’m ready to defend myself.”

The Premier Soccer League have been silent over reports they are angry with Vermezovic’s criticism of the lack of oxygen and other essential aspects of the immediate medical treatment when Bafana goalkeeper Khune was knocked unconscious in a clash of heads with Thamsanqa Gabuza in Durban last Wednesday.

PSL officials told reporters at the weekend Vermezovic would be charged with bringing the league into disrepute but have not officially confirmed this intention.

Vermezovic’s outburst about the treatment at Moses Mabhida Stadium was made at a press conference the day after Khune was hurt, prompting the PSL to counter with a statement in which they said they were satisfied with the care the goalkeeper received.

That was followed by a detailed letter in which Chiefs medical staff explained several deficiencies around the immediate treatment of Khune, including a lack of oxygen, only one stretcher brought onto the field and poorly trained stretcher bearers.
