Cape Town - AmaZulu fought back from a goal down to beat Wits 2-1 at a very wet Bidvest Stadium on Friday night.

Calvin Kadi scored his 10th goal of the League campaign to give the Students the lead, but strikes from Dumisani Ngwenya and Brad Ritson gave struggling Usuthu three valuable points – and under-fire coach Neil Tovey some breathing space.

Patrick Phungwayo’s powerful shot in the 13th minute was the first real chance for either team to score, but Mzimela made a fine save, diving to his left.

Ritson then got a great opportunity to put Usuthu ahead from close range in the 21st minute, but Darren Keet made a great reflex save.

Wits tried to up the tempo at the start of the second half, with Brazilian midfielder Fabricio Rodrigues looking more interested in trying to force things.

It was AmaZulu that got the first chance when midfielder Lita Ngxabi headed the ball backwards towards the Students goal. However, the ball flew just wide of the right goalpost.

Wits eventually scored the goal their dominance warranted, with Kadi finishing off Phungwayo’s cross.

AmaZulu coach Neil Tovey made a double change in the 64th minute, bringing on Sthembiso Dlamini and Tsweu Mokoro. He was rewarded three minutes later when his Ngwenya scored the equaliser with a shot from inside the box after a scramble in the area.

Fourteen minutes later and AmaZulu went ahead thanks to a fine shot from around the edge of the box by Ritson, leaving Students keeper Keet no chance.
