SuperSport have earned their place in the last eight of the Nedbank Cup with wins over fellow Premier Soccer League teams.

They first defeated Polokwane City 4-1 before eliminating defending champions Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the previous round.

As for Arrows, they have emerged victorious in successive derby matches to reach the quarterfinals. They first ousted AmaZulu 2-1 before edging lower league side Natal United 1-0 in the previous round.

SuperSport and Arrows were regular combatants in the top flight until the latter suffered relegation to the National First Division last year. However, the Durban side are top of the second-tier log and look in good shape to return to the PSL.

The teams also faced off in three cup matches: the first was a 2007 Absa Cup match which United edged 1-0 thanks to a goal from Daine Klate, who is now back with the Tshwane outfit.

They met again in the first round of the 2011 Nedbank Cup and Matsatsantsa once again emerged victorious, this time with a more convincing 3-1 score line.

The most recent cup match between the sides was in the first round of the 2011 Telkom Knockout and on that occasion it was Abafana Bes’thende who emerged victorious, edging the game 1-0 thanks to Collins Mbesuma.

In all, the teams have met in 31 league and cup matches since 2000/01. United have claimed 17 wins compared to nine for Arrows, while five matches have been drawn.

The teams last met in the 2013/14 PSL season, with SuperSport winning their home game 3-1, while the return match in KwaZulu-Natal went 1-0 in favour of Abafana Bes’thende.

Kick-off at 20:15 on Saturday, April 11.
