Tsutsulupa nearing a return

Cape Town - Moroka Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa is hopeful of being back on the park in late October as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Preview: Wits vs Swallow

The midfielder was ruled out of action for six weeks after injuring his ankle in the Dube Birds' opening league fixture against Orlando Pirates.

While it was initially hoped the skipper would be ready to go by the middle of October, the 34-year-old says he may need to wait a little longer.

"My programme allows me to be back in the middle of October, but I’m not sure whether I’ll be ready to compete," he told Soccer Laduma.

"I definitely miss the action and being around the guys."

Swallows have endured a rough patch of form of late, with a succession of defeats seeing them drop to 11th in the league standings after making a bright start to the new campaign.

While many have called for head coach Zeca Marques to resign, Tsutsulupa is confident that matters will soon improve.

"The guys will get it right soon. It’s only a matter of time before they play the kind of football that we know they are capable of producing," he said.

Meanwhile Swallows and Bidvest Wits will battle for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Telkom Knockout when they meet at Bidvest Stadium on Friday, October 3.

Kick-off is at 20:00.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
