Cape Town - Orlando Pirates head coach Eric Tinkler was happy with the performances of new signings Felipe Ovono and Luvuyo Memela in the recent King's Super Cup.
Pirates were knocked out of the one-day friendly tournament, hosted in Swaziland, in the semi-final on penalties by Swazi domestic league champions Royal Leopards.
Despite the disappointing result, Tinkler was impressed by what he saw from Equatorial Guinea international goalkeeper Ovono and Memela, who arrived from National First Division outfit Cape Town All Stars.
Ovona played a crucial role in ensuring the Buccaneers made it to the penalty shootout with a series of key saves during the match, while Memela scored the opening goal of the game that ended 1-1.
"I believe Ovono is a great goalkeeper," Tinkler told KickOff.
"I think we are strong in that department with Siyabonga Mpontshane and Brighton Mhlongo. Our goalkeeping department, that is something good for us in the team.
"I thought the young boy Memela, who has just joined us, had an exceptional game. He was unpredictable, was skillful and managed to beat players. I was impressed with his performance."
The Sea Robbers' next assignment is a must-win CAF Confederation Cup trip to Tunisia to take on CS Sfaxien on Sunday.
